Faqir Nawab Wali Mohammed Khan Laghari



One of the legendary poets and Sufi masters of the Indus Valley was reverent Faqir Nawab Wali Mohammed Khan Laghari. 
He was the son of Nawab Ahmed Khan, and the grandson of Nawab Wali Mohammed Khan- the Prime Minister of the Talpur regime then. He was born in Tando Wali Mohammed, Hyderabad, Sindh in 1836 AD/ 1252 AH.

After the British invasion in the region, he moved to Mirzanpur, Sakrand, in the North of Haiderabad. Amongst his teachers were Akhund Sawani, Miyan Ghulam Mohammed, Miyan Mohammed Sadiq, Miyan Muqeem and Miyan Sajawal.

For spiritual path he became the student of Sufi Ibrahim Shah ‘Bangalay Dhani’ of Jhok Sharif lineage. In the year 1883 AD/ 1301 AH due to the heavy flood affecting Mirzanpur badly, Faqir Nawab Wali Mohammed Khan migrated to Tajpur for good.
At the age of forty, he renounced the worldly affairs, and handed the matters over to his brother Nawab Buksh Ali Khan and chose Sufi way of life.

He was fond of spiritual music and poetry.Much has been written about him and his seminal work. Amongst his contemporaries and friends was the great poet Syed Misri Shah of Naserpur. A lot of individuals became his disciples and later on masters themselves, a lot many learnt from him, such as: Mohammed Faqir Khatiyan- a great Sufi poet & master, Fateh Ali Khan Khatiyan, Qazi Hisamudin and Ahmed Faqir Lakho.

Faqir Nawab Wali Mohammed Khan Laghari departed in 1914 AD/ in the month of Ramadan,1332 AH, and his mausoleum is in Tajpur. He said poetry in Persian, Hindi, Sindhi & Siraiki languages, and his biography and works have been published.
